Tanzania is a year-round destination, but each season offers something unique - from the Great Migration’s drama to lush green landscapes - ensuring unforgettable safaris whenever you choose to travel.
Great Migration - River Crossings
Hot but dry, great for game drives and calving season in the southern Serengeti where wildebeest give birth.
Still dry and hot, with fantastic wildlife action around Ndutu (calving continues). Photographers love the lush yet accessible landscapes.
Afternoon showers become frequent, landscapes turn green, fewer tourists. Wildlife viewing less predictable but scenery is stunning.
Heavy rains make some roads tricky. Lush vegetation but wildlife harder to spot. Best for solitude and discounted rates.
Rainfall decreases toward end of month. Green landscapes, migratory birds everywhere, and lodges often cheaper.
Skies clear, grasses lower, wildlife easier to see. Beginning of the Great Migration northwards in Serengeti.
Peak safari month. Cool mornings/evenings. Wildebeest reach northern Serengeti; river crossings begin.
One of the very best months. Clear skies, abundant wildlife, dramatic Mara River crossings. Parks at their busiest.
Migration still in full swing; Tarangire Park teems with elephants. Dry bush concentrates wildlife at water sources.
Still excellent for game drives. Wildebeest begin moving south. Hotter, with chance of first short rains later in the month.
Afternoon showers green up the plains. Wildlife viewing still good, with fewer crowds. Great month for photographers.
Lush scenery, migratory birds, festive safari season. Wildebeest return south to Ndutu. Occasional showers but safaris still rewarding.
